My passion for exercise, health & wellness has been a lifelong journey. Growing up sports were my reason for exercise. However after many years of intense training, I began to suffer a lot of injuries. This lead me down a very different path of exercise after college. With much more of a focus on building a solid foundation through mobility & balance exercises I have been able to not only get myself out of discomfort & joint pain but also & MORE IMPORTANTLY my clients have also had the same benefits! 
I have been a Personal Trainer for 4 years, working with a variety of clientele in a variety of environments. I have worked with Weight Loss Clients / General Fitness /  Athletes (High School & College) / 65y/o+ / Pain Management / Rehab / Physical Therapy Experience. I use a variety of exercises that help to enhance not only how well you can exercise, but also perform everyday activities with greater ease. Whether walking up a flight of stairs, carrying groceries, yard work - these activities DO NOT have to be so much effort & leaving you sore, tight or possibly in pain. I offer a different approach to exercise, starting with the most basic form of movement you do (walking) we began to reset your body so that every step you take feels stronger!

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a holistic health profession that focuses on function of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems to decrease pain, prevent injuries and to promote overall wellness without the use of drugs or surgery. Chiropractors utilize a variety of techniques and modalities to help people achieve optimal health naturally. Chiropractors are specifically trained to adjust the spine. The vertebrae in the back form the spinal canal inside which lives the spinal cord. The spinal cord along with your brain form the central nervous system of your body. The central nervous system controls all the organs and tissues that make up your body and therefor is responsible for all of the day to day functions your body performs. Adjusting the spine keeps the skeletal system aligned which allows for the nervous system to function properly and efficiently communicate messages between the brain and body as a result. Improving overall function is crucial to achieve long term pain relief and to achieve optimal health.

Chiropractors use specific adjustments to help restore proper function. An adjustment is a controlled force used to overcome restrictions around joints that can be caused by muscle spasms, inflammation of tissues, scar tissue and pain. By performing an adjustment, the restriction is eliminated and proper information can flow from the brain to the rest of the body which allows for a decrease in pain and restoration of normal function.

There are several different techniques that are utilized to deliver an adjustment. There are high-velocity, low-amplitude adjustments performed by the chiropractor using his/her hands to deliver a high energy impulse to overcome a restriction. There are also low-force techniques that involve using pelvic blocks, contacting ligaments or using small instruments to make an adjustment by affecting the nervous system in an alternative way.

Overall, the adjustment is the most powerful tool a chiropractor utilizes to make lasting change in a person's overall function. The adjustment is what makes chiropractors nervous system doctors and not simply "bone doctors" or "muscle doctors". Each adjustment has a global impact on a person because of its influence on the body's nervous system which controls the body as a whole.

Here's todays dish:
Black Bean & Corn Salad with Shrimp​
Quick & Easy!

INGREDIENTS: 
  • 2 Jalapeno Peppers
  • 1 Red or Orange Bell Pepper
  • 1 Red Onion
  • 2-3 Ears of Corn
  • 2 cans of Black Beans
  • 1 Avocado
  • 1 Clove of Minced Garlic
  • 3 Tablespoons Fresh Cilantro
  • 2 Limes (Juiced)
  • S&P
  • 1 Bag of frozen Medium Shrimp (or 2 lbs fresh)
  • ​Tortilla Chips
DIRECTIONS:
1. Chop and set aside Jalapeno Peppers (keep ribs and seeds if you like it spicy!) , Bell Pepper, Red onion.

2. Grill ears of corn to get a little char on them and set aside to cool.

3. Season shrimp with some canola oil, minced garlic and S&P and skewer for grill. Set aside.

4. Add to the chopped veggies: Black Beans (rinse and drain first), Corn (cut off cob), Lime Juice, Cilantro (chopped) and a little S&P to taste.

Suggestion: You can make the salsa part of this ahead of time and keep refrigerated and this will add to the intensity of flavor!

5. Just before serving, grill shrimp for 2 minutes on each side on a medium-hot grill. Cut up Avocado. These two ingredients can be served over top of the salad. You can sprinkle a little extra Cilantro here and a Lime wedge if desired too.

6. Serve with Tortilla Chips!

This is a series of blog posts, teaching about various natural health solutions to use as your first line of defense to heal the body. It is my goal to teach and empower people to choose safe options and to also know that when it is a true medical emergency, to seek professional help from their doctor.
For almost 20 years now, I have been using homeopathy as my first go-to as a first line of defense which has helped keep me free from needing medical intervention during that entire time.

WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY?
Homeopathy is a form of medicine that was founded over two hundred years ago by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a medical doctor in Germany during the late 1700s. It is based on the principle of similars, of “like cures like”. It treats the whole person rather than just the disease, by recognizing the body, mind, and spirit of the person. It is the totality that makes homeopathy a truly holistic medical therapy. The medicines are used to stimulate the person to heal themselves by stimulating their own vital force to do the healing.

ARE HOMEOPATHIC REMEDIES SAFE FOR SELF MEDICATION?
Homeopathic remedies are made from plant, animal or mineral sources so they use all-natural ingredients. Only very small quantities, diluted many times, of these ingredients, are needed to stimulate the body's sensitive defense mechanism. For home care, they are generally administered in the smallest possible doses to create a healing, and yet will cause no harm. These remedies are commonly found in most health food stores. (NOTE: Arnica, the #1 remedy used for bruising and injuries, should be avoided if a person is on blood thinners.)

HOW DOES HOMEOPATHY WORK?
Example: Your child eats the berries of a deadly nightshade plant. He becomes very ill and looks as if he has scarlet fever with all the spots, fever and delirium. As a matter of fact, had you not seen him eat the berries yourself, you would have assumed he actually had scarlet fever. This is the principle of homeopathy. Like cures like. They give a minute dose of the poison In the form of homeopathic Belladonna, to cure the raging illness of scarlet fever, in the form of homeopathic Belladonna. The small dose given, is safely used to reverse the symptoms. 

ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS TO HOMEOPATHY?
Homeopathic remedies are remarkably free of any negative side effects and are among the safest preparations known to medical science. In fact, I like to say that the remedies have side benefits because quite often they help with additional symptoms that the client may be experiencing because most remedies help to heal multiple symptoms. If you take the wrong remedy, it just doesn't work and you need to seek out another remedy for the problem. NOTE: for serious conditions or medical emergencies, it is recommended that you consult with a skilled homeopath or your family doctor first.

IS HOMEOPATHY EASY TO LEARN FOR HOME USE?
Absolutely! But, some study is necessary to learn how to use it. Dr. Garth Boericke, MD called homeopathy “the only system where using drugs can be put into the hands of intelligent laypersons without risk and with a reasonable assurance of success.” An introductory class to Homeopathy is helpful for the layperson is helpful, because there is a lot to learn, but when used properly, it works easy and fast. There are some great books available for the layperson to use as a reference.
The two I recommend and use most myself are The Family Guide to Homeopathy by Dr. Andrew Lockie and Homeopathic Medicine At Home by Dr. Maesimund B. Panos, MD and Jane Heimlich. Both of these reference books recommend the most common of homeopathic remedies used for everyday ailments and minor injuries.
For people who prefer more hands-on information, there are two options to learn more about how to use Homeopathy. I offer an Introductory Class on Homeopathy for beginners on the top 12 Homeopathic Remedies to have in your medicine cabinet This class is about two hours long.
For students who want more information beyond that, there is also a 12 Lesson Course available, which is taught in a classroom setting or can be done as a home study course. There is much more information and homework assignments to help the student understand how the remedies work, tips on helping determine the right remedy, and many other helpful pieces of information on why, how and when to use Homeopathy.

There are so very many varieties of plants, herbs, and fungi that grow on earth.  These varieties are enough to aid in the care of numerous diseases.  These plants, herbs and fungi have corrected wide-ranging conditions over centuries.  Not all of these plants, herbs and fungi are proved-out through scientific methods; yet do have recorded reports of better quality of health along with word-of-mouth accounts showing comparable results with people over and over again.  These remedies do work and have for centuries and thousands of years on top of that.  These many plants, herbs, and fungi grow across our globe and can benefit each of us no matter where you call home.    I will now tell you a little bit about a seed.  Yes seeds have nutritive value for your health as well.

This series as mentioned in the September Newsletter is working with the immune system.  Last month I suggested mushrooms as a way to balance your immune system for better function. Seasonal Shift;
​Healthy Standards, Habits, and Routine:

There are the Seasons of Nature, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter but we also have the Life Seasons. These Life Seasons may coincide with Nature’s Seasons but usually, they intercede each other. Life Seasons in my world are school, sports, seasonal work, holidays and travel.  As we shift with the Nature Seasons there are standards and habits in our routines that we naturally fall into, similarly to our Life Seasons.  These have a general sense of balance and order as we make these transitional shifts. What happens when either Nature Season or Life Seasons go haywire? These imbalances can affect our standards, habits, and routines which can throw off our physical, mental and emotional states.
·        Do you have a routine that can get you back on course quickly?
·        Or do you spiral out of control until you land abruptly and forced to pick up the pieces and start over?
·        How can our standards, habits, and routines limit our derailment?
·        Are your standards, habits, and routines healthy, motivating and a fit for you?
Many times, we have higher standards of care and wellbeing for those around us than for ourselves. We maintain routines, habits, for our friends, extended family, kids, employees, significant others before we set standards for ourselves.  This compassion, care, and love is an honored full-time job that is rewarding. Yet, we get it all together for others and then we get depleted with no energy left for self-care. To add in self-care is a must, yet when and where with your existing full routine? A good time is during Nature, or Life Season shifts.  The seasonal shift can be the catalyst to improve your healthy standards, habits, and routines.
These additions or shifts do not have to be a full life makeover. In just a few minutes of self-care, you can elevate your mental, emotional and physical shape. Then as the next season arrives you are ready to develop the next healthy standard.

Just what is a Wealthy Mind?
What exactly is a Wealthy Mind? A few years ago, (around 2007,) when the economy was going downhill, I was introduced to a book written by T. Harv Eker called “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind.” It taught how to Master the “Inner Game of Wealth.” That caught my attention and as I began reading it, I could relate to the author as he told his story of struggling financially as a young man.
In the first part of the book, Eker writes about our Money Blueprints. It's basically what and how we were taught about money in our homes, as kids growing up. That's when I realized I'm in the right place. The phrase about money that I remembered most from my Mom was; “Wish in one hand and spit in the other, and see which one gets filled first.” Not a good thought!
However, she did teach my brother and me about money by creating a little box with 4 divisions in it. We were to divide our weekly allowance into the 4 categories.  Which at that time was 50 cents. Ten cents for the church. Ten cents for my Bluebird dues (or Cub Scouts,) Ten cents for savings. And 20 cents to spend. (Fortunately, there was a penny candy store close by and even a candy bar was only a nickel back then.)
Ecker made a lot of sense to me, including how people with money tend to think differently and act differently than poor or even middle-class people. Maybe it was just that I never cared about being “rich” because people had a lot of negative things to say about “those rich people.” I certainly never thought I could attain that, or was guided in that direction. Because my parents didn’t know either. 
In “The Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” Ecker explains 17 different ways that Rich People think and act differently from Poor and Middle-class people. It all made a lot of sense to me and I began to realize that things didn't have to be the way they always were. A few months later, I took a trip to Toronto to attended a “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” weekend seminar. It was amazing to be in the energy of the other people in the room and the trainers were phenomenal.
At one point, I asked one of the workers “how would I find out how to bring this seminar to Detroit?” I knew the people back home were certainly in need of this information as we had, at that time, one of the largest home foreclosure markets in the country. If you know how synchronicity works, then you will understand what happened next. The guy said; “Oh, these people over here were just asking about that too. Here let me introduce you to them.” This is when I met a husband and wife team, also from the Detroit area, who had the same idea. I joined forces with them and others, which they knew, and we did bring the seminar to Detroit a few years in a row.
My introduction to this information led to Robert Kiyosaki's series of “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” books and others. All these ideas continued to feed my brain full of possibilities and more productive ways of thinking and doing things. Hopefully, it has helped me to direct my own children and grandchildren in a better direction too.
As T. Harv Eker says: “The Roots Create the Fruits” In saying this, he's comparing us to a tree, which represents the tree of life. Based on how the tree is nourished and fed, the tree will eventually bear fruits. In life, he says: “our fruits are called our results.” He goes on to explain; “it's the seeds and the roots that create those fruits.” It's a process of learning and education over time. It's what's happening below the ground that creates the final result of the fruit. And as Ecker says; “If you want to change the fruits, you will first have to change the roots.” To change the visible, you first need to change what lies below the surface (and invisible). So, change your thinking! Sometimes that’s easier said than done. I have found it is a process of learning and improving over time.  
Robert Kiyosaki says; “This information needs to be taught in our schools today.” And, I couldn't agree more. Through the years, I've learned a much better way of looking at the money then how I was taught, (and realizing that my parents were not taught either, because people just didn’t know. It's all part of the journey as we all strive to improve our lives and those of our loved ones. Rather than give my kids everything they want, I'd much rather teach and empower them to do better for themselves. Creating a Wealthy Mind is where it all begins.

The soul shines all around the body as a body of light. When a person is open, appreciative and trusting of another, over time, your two souls will flow together. This deep bond means you have found an Anam Cara or “soul friend.” Your Anam Cara will always honor your light and beauty and will accept you and see you for who you truly are.

No matter who you are, what you are, where you are, or what kind of journey you are on, we all need to experience this love. Our Soul needs to experience love as much as our body needs air to breathe. Only when experiencing this true love, can the Soul be freed, to become its true self. The Soul lives in the quiet and secret world of eternal life.

There are many possibilities of our evolving human soul, which remains somewhat asleep, waiting for the time for us to find our true destiny. We are put here to seek, experience, and honor all the possibilities. Often we go chasing down rabbit holes, go in circles, or are unsure as to which path to take when at a crossroad. But, they are all leading us to the same place and give us the experiences that we need to shape and mold us into perfection.

Our Soul connections can be male and female, but not necessarily. It can be two men, or two women, with brothers and sisters, or friends. Friends from long ago, that reconnect, or newfound Soul friends, waiting to be discovered. The Anam Cara friendship awakens the fullness and mystery of your life.

You will find that you are joined in what feels like an ancient and eternal union, that cuts through time, barriers, convention, and definition. When you are blessed with an Anam Cara, soul friend, the Irish believe, you have arrived at the most sacred space; which feels like you are finally home.

When true “Soul Love” comes into your life, everything changes. All the possibilities (which have been asleep) of your human potential and destiny, suddenly awaken. When true Soul Love comes into your life and awakens your heart, that is when your soul evolution begins.

It has been said; “perfect love casts out all fear” and “love is the nature of the soul.”  And yet, where do we find that elusive “perfect love, that will cast out all fear,” which is “connected to our soul?”

As much as we may want it, and as hard as we may seek after true love, the ‘Secret Lies Within.’ It begins as an inside job. We are always looking outward for the Savior, but we all must first go inside and save ourselves, by learning to love ourselves, for better or for worse. Many of us tend to be our own worst critics, but learning to love ourselves, unconditionally, first, is the beginning step.

All of us tend to search for Love when we reach a certain age. It is our deepest yearning, consciously or unconsciously. However, we do not need to seek out and “find love.” We need to learn to be still and know that love will discover us when we discover our own “self-love.” We are taught at a young age, not to be conceited and that we need to “think of others first.” But, there is a delicate balance in that process.

After we learn self-love, it gets easier to allow someone else to love us, and for us to accept that love fully. It is then when we can experience the Anam Cara Friendship that is not limited by the wounds we carry or limited by separation or distance. Those things will all fall away.

When the Soul is awakened in this way, there is a heart to heart connection. Physical space is transfigured and you awaken to the Eternal with your Soul Friend, no matter how far apart you may be. There is no distance in this kind of Soul-relationship.

However, it doesn’t just stop there. The birthing of the human heart is an ongoing process, all of our lives. Each experience with another allows our heart connections to grow stronger.

These Soul connections can awaken what is divine within you. With Soul love, you grow your inner being and come home to your higher-self. When you learn to love unconditionally, and to let yourself be loved unconditionally, you connect to the center of your own spirit.

Once the Soul awakens to itself, the search begins and you can never go back. This kind of Soul love begins with paying attention to others, with an act of graciousness and self-forgetting and it grows from there. It can be a long-standing friendship, or a loving relationship, on a deeper level.

If you have everything the world has to offer, but you do not have true love, then you are the poorest, of the poorest, of the poor. Every human heart hungers for love. 

If you do not have the warmth of love in your heart, there is no possibility of real celebration or true enjoyment of life. The one thing we all deeply long for is love. To give love and to receive love.

May you find peace in your heart and experience an Anam Cara friendship.

LAUGH IT UP!
Maybe Laughter Really Is The Best Medicine

Did you know that there are so many great benefits to laughing that all of us should have a big dose of laughter daily? You don't necessarily need to have a reason to laugh or be happy either. And, you don't even have to have a sense of humor. Your body doesn't know the difference if your laughter is real or fake. But the benefits of laughter have such positive healing effects on your body that we all need to do more of it. It works kind of like a pressure release valve to bring about feelings of wellness and joy.

It started in 1995, when Dr. Madan Kataria, a medical doctor, in Mumbai, India, discovered the power of laughter. Looking for ways to help his patients heal faster, Doctor Kataria and his wife Madhuri, began gathering at the local park each morining, with his patients, or anyone else who wanted to join them. They began by telling funny stories, but eventually ran out of what to say. So they began doing little exercises, like shaking hands with someone, with both people bowing and laughing at the same time. The resulting benefits were beyond expectations. They found that pretending to laugh gave the same benefits as if they were actually laughing. And, afterall, laughter is contagious. Just listening to others laughing will at least bring a smile to anyone's face. Along with healing benefits, it put people in a better mood for the day, too.
In Sanskrit, Hasys means Laughter and Yoga = Breathe. Hence the name “Laughter Yoga.” Benefits include: being a de-stresser that offers a pressure release valve. It calms the stress hormones caused by “fight of flight.”  It also increases of flow of blood though the blood vessels to the brain, skin and internal organs. Laughing also aids digestion, burns calories and creates more energy by getting more oxygen into the cells. Laughing helps strengthen the immune system. Plus the muscles benefit from the added oxygen.

Laughing also helps increase lung capacity (we usually only use about 1/3 of our lung capacity.) It will help you sleep better and it is a great way to connect with other people. Laughing is like getting a massage on the internal organs, especially the intestines. Laughter also releases endorphins, NK Killer cells, and decreases depression.

Caution Warning; For people with Blood Pressure issues; Check with your Doctor first. Other Contrindications include: people with hernias, epilepsy, severe backache, uncontrolled high blood pressure or any other heart and lung conditions, and should consult their physician first.

Some people think just standing there laughting for no reason is silly. But “Silli” in old English means: “Blessed, Fortunate, Kind, Cheereful and Innocent.” I guess it's worth feeling a little silly when you realize all the benefits. Many of us have repressed our laughter since childhood, or after the loss of joyfulness during stressful times. We begin to feel stuck. So, start by brushing those emotions off your shoulders and laugh as you do it. Start with 1 or 2 minutes and increase it each day. Get ready to drop your inhibitions, get playful and laugh. You will be amazed at how much better you begin to feel in just a short time.

When working with a group, we usually laugh for about 30 minutes (with little breaks in between.) Sometimes we're clapping our hands, walking or marching around, doing yoga poses, and pretending all kinds of things (like fishing, bowling, laughing like the Green Giant, or shaking a milk shake, etc.) The really fun part is when we are in a group with all the people are laughting, and it's usually inevitable that one person will have a really funny laugh and that makes everyone else laugh even harder.
There is only one rule and that is to never laugh AT someone, but laugh with them.

Laughter truly is FREE for everyone and it is the same in all languages.

In closing, all the members stand with their eyes closed for one minute, with their arms extended upwards, sending love and energy to others for World Peace. That is the mission of Dr. Kataria and for all who practice Laughter Yoga.
