Why Should Chiropractic be Part of my 2020 New Year’s Resolution?

First off, Happy New Year (new decade really!) to all! The New Year often begins with new, big, lofty goals and resolutions. Some of the most common ones are centered around losing weight and getting back to the gym. This is where chiropractic comes in. Most people are highly motivated and hit the new year running hard, many times over-doing it and finding themselves hurt and injured rather quickly into the new year- think achy knees from treadmill or squats, shoulders getting sore from overhead presses. Many times this aches and pains will derail a highly motivated person and stop them from pursuing the gym and their activity goals for months, and even sometimes until the next year. 

Injuries occur for a variety of reasons. Doing too much, too soon will tax bones, muscles and ligaments beyond what they can adapt to, resulting in injury. Improper function or poor movement patterns due to lack of mobility can lead to unsafe compensations by the body in an attempt to perform an exercise. Misalignments of the spine itself can lead to improper movement patterns and more compensation. Without a proper functional movement screen and examination, it’s hard to tell exactly how or why an injury would occur.

You’re probably wondering at this point “where does chiropractic fits into all of this?” Let me explain. Many people are familiar with the concept of going to a chiropractor for low back pain. Most people don’t think of seeing a chiropractor when their extremities hurt (i.e feet, ankles, toes, knees, elbows, shoulders, wrists, hands, fingers). Their first steps when things like this start to hurt are typically to stop all activity and rest, maybe try ice or heat and some stretches. When that doesn’t work they will often call their primary care physician and upon their office visit will leave being told to continue resting, often with prescriptions for extra strength ibuprofen or acetaminophen and/or some muscle relaxers, and possibly a prescription for physical therapy to be filled by the patient if they wish. 

At Element Chiropractic, I specialize in extremity adjusting and upper and lower body Active Release Technique (ART) which addresses the muscles, tendons and ligaments that are likely playing a role in the injury. I encourage anyone battling with an extremity (or spine) injury to make an appointment for an examination, functional movement assessment and treatment which will include adjusting (spine and extremities), soft tissue work and rehabilitation exercises. In addition to the chiropractic services I offer, I work closely with Physical Therapists, Massage Therapists, Fascial Stretch Therapists and Personal Trainers who can help me to help you. My main goal is to keep people healthy and active so they can do the things they love. Let me help you, or the ones you love stay healthy and on-track to achieve those 2020 goals and resolutions!

Here we are at the beginning of another year, and making our promises to eat healthier. (Myself included.) So, I thought you might appreciate some helpful tips, to make 2020 the year to make some positive changes for yourself. Often, when we are looking for that extra snack, it could be because our body is lacking certain nutrients that it needs. Or we grab our favorite comfort foods because we are stressed. And maybe we just need to hydrate yourself with good, clean, water. 
Sometimes we know as soon as we've eaten something we think that we made a good choice because our belly is full and happy. But is it? Or is that our body's reaction to poor choices by bloating? Or, 30 minutes later, we're looking for something else again. It's really about providing our bodies with better choices. 
Everyone wants to avoid fats and thinks why would you want to eat that? But do you know that the high carb comfort foods will make you gain weight faster than eating foods loaded with good fats? The starchy comfort foods in excess will turn to sugar and store it as fat in the cells of your body. Plus, in time it will create a fatty liver, which really makes it harder to lose weight. It's really from bad food choices. 
When you eat “good” fats, your body is actually satisfied and you will not have all the cravings you get after eating a high carb meal. Pay attention after you eat and how you feel. Keep a journal, even if only for a week, to write down your foods and how you feel after you eat them. If you notice a pattern and need help, I'm always willing to help.

Happy New Year Everyone! 

Can you believe it is 2020? I am titling this decade the, “Roaring Twenties”. I am not suggesting repeating the decade of 1920, but rather experience a modern decade born of this century. A decade lived in ways we have never thought of before. It is 2020 all brand new!
I believe this decade is a special gift to each of us. We have the chance to develop ourselves, evolve down any path we choose. Create a prosperous life, no matter how you define it. We can truly be kind to one another. We can learn new skills, no matter our physical age. We can adjust our perspective and judgements. We can bring fresh ideas to the table. We can keep our physical, mental, emotional, intellectual and spiritual selves tuned in more than we ever have. It is time to wake up and see how everything around us is changed on this day. To be ready to explore and just have fun!
Wow. If that sounded like a lot, well it can be. It all depends on how you handle situations. I offer suggestions to make your life more comfortable. No matter what situations you find yourself in there are always tactics you can try to help you manage. A lot has to do with your perspective on the situation, the emotions you experience and how you take care of your physical self. How connected and trusting are you of your spiritual self?
There are many ideas you can apply to help you make improvements in those areas. I deal with your nutritional self. I offer food suggestions and herbal suggestions based on what you tell me. I also suggest exercise and counseling if necessary to get those positive changes in place.
It really is never too late to make improvements during your lifetime. This is a new decade and I wish that you all can make it the most enjoyable and best yet.

Why Cleansing Is Important

The Chinese recommend cleaning the body with each season change. Now that the Holidays are over, many people are trying to eliminate the excess weight they suddenly found. To bring about healing and restoration of the body and good health, internal cleansing is needed to help replace old tissue with new. If you have not tried a cleanse before, a good place to start is with digestive enzymes after each meal and a basic colon cleanse, with lots of fiber.
This information is known as Herrings Law of Cure and explains how one organ systems have an effect on another and eventually causes a deterioration process of the body. When the body starts to heal, the healing process begins in reverse order.
  • When     the gut or digestive system becomes stressed and compromised by improper diet, nutritionally depleted foods, and poor food choices, the colon and the process elimination of waste and toxins become compromised dues to lack of digestive enzymes. Nutrients from the foods are not able to be absorbed and be bio-available for the body to build and repair itself.     
        

  • When the colon becomes affected by improperly digested food, the body is unable to breakdown and assimilate the nutrients from the foods properly. Eventually, this compromises the friendly bacteria in the colon, which plays a very important role in the immune system.     
        

  • The liver and the gallbladder are the first to be affected by a toxic colon. Where they are not functioning properly, a person is unable to digest or assimilate fats through the gallbladder dysfunction, and the liver has many functions in the digestion and elimination of toxins.     
        

  • Eventually, the kidney and bladder are affected by an overload of toxins in the body. The kidneys are another filtering system in the body. Everything is connected. When the kidneys are not working properly, the lungs then are compromised and become weak.     
        

  • When oxygen from the lungs cannot circulate freely, the circulation of blood becomes challenged and needs help, which then causes the circulation to be compromised, affecting the heart and spleen.     
        

  • Over time, the muscles and soft tissue becomes weakened and it becomes hard to move and function properly, causing the spine to deteriorate.     
        

  • Eventually, the brain and nerves are affected, causing the endocrine glands to malfunction.     
This may all sound pretty dismal, but there really is hope and the body can reverse itself to bring about healing and restoration by first strengthening the immune system and build up the body. The body takes at least 3 months, plus and an additional month for each year that the body has been deteriorating of the condition has existed. Healing is a process, not just a pill.
Germs do not cause disease, but they do seek conditions conducive to their growth. Seventy percent of your health starts in the colon, so the use of probiotics and a good cleansing if important. Poor eating habits, not enough rest and a stressful lifestyle all increase toxicity and decrease the body's ability to eliminate the toxic residue. The toxicity eventually ends up in the bloodstream and circulates throughout the body.
The same with our emotions. The body is a holistic entity and must be treated as such. Healing must be of the entire Body, Mind, and Spirit. Did you know each organ has an emotional component tied to it? This causes toxic deposits, both emotionally and physically according to the emotional sufferings. Fear causes more toxicity in the body than any other emotion.
These are all reasons why I recommend cleaning of the body throughout the year. Plus, using the flower essences to help soothe and tame the emotions.

My Dear Readers and Followers:
It took me a while to write this article for a few reasons. First of all, it was the end of 2010-s and the beginning of the 2020s. Secondly, this time around New Year usually signifies changes, wishes, hopes, intentions, and creates a vast array of different emotions. Some of us want to forget the previous year and start the new one from scratch. Some wish the previous year would never end.
Personally, I think the New Year itself represents our life in general. Every single moment is a past and a future simultaneously. What was “now” a second ago, is already our past, which was a future just a second ago, becomes “now.” So, as we are stepping into a new decade I am inviting you to contemplate what you could be grateful for in the decade which we just waved bye-bye to. 
For many years I was puzzled why almost at every training I attended, the coach always suggested we write a gratitude journal. The format of the journal could be different, but the idea to document the happy, positive events in our lives remained the same. 
Finally a little while ago, after attending another training for meridian tapping, it became clear to me that by documenting happy, positive events in our lives, we are creating an amazing resource to help us feel good every time we are not feeling our best.
I am not talking about the “power of positive thinking.”
I am talking about the ability to feel grateful and to feel good.
This emotion gives us the ability to change our state of mind almost instantly.
It gives us an opportunity to stop to be so serious about our lives, and feel more like a kid again. Which also brings into our lives elements of pure fun, joy, and laughter.
Try it right now. Just remember something good that happened in your life, maybe today, or a couple of days ago. Something that helped put a smile on your face and gratitude in your heart.
Allow yourself to notice how eager your mind is to feel this feeling again. Fill yourself with the emotions of feeling good, feeling grateful, and allow yourself to notice that maybe you are already smiling. It only takes a few minutes to change your state of mind.
Now put both hands onto your chest, take three deep breaths and bring the emotion of gratitude into your heart, because the healing starts with us feeling grateful. With this feeling, we learn how to love and appreciate ourselves. We open ourselves to possibilities to heal ourselves and others. By radiating gratitude we are making our lives lighter, easier, happier.
I invite you now to do a small exercise that helps me enormously when the situation is challenging. Put both hands on your chest. Take a deep breath and say one-word “gratitude.”
Repeat 3 times: Take a deep breath on every point. Lightly tap yourself with two fingers on each point listed. Repeat the word Gratitude at each point.
Now do this tapping sequence:
1.Inside of the eye: Gratitude
2.Outside of the eye: Gratitude
3.Under the eye: Gratitude
4.Under the nose: Gratitude
5.Chin: Gratitude
6.Color bone: Gratitude
7 Bring your hands back to chest: Gratitude
I wish you all a Happy, Healthy New 2020. And a New 2020 decade Filled with Light, Love, and Laughter. I wish you that every moment of your will-be illuminated with gratitude and lightness.
And about me, I am grateful for all of you in my life, for all the wishes I received over the last few weeks. For all the good words, polite gestures, for my practice.
I invite you one more time to share the good news and share happiness, because by acting this way we create positive resources that are necessary for making our lives, and the lives of the people around us to be happier.

THE BIG SEVEN
​How to Live a Healthy and Happy 2020!

For those of you who made your New Years Resolution to live a healthier lifestyle, here are a few pointers to help you stay on track. If you goof up one day, you can always start over fresh the next day (and we all have those days!)

Make all of your daily activities sacred by adapting and engaging daily in the following practices to create a habit of discipline, consciousness, and in loving appreciation of the Great Creator.

  1. Pure Diet- Eat foods that are free of chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, high in sugar or genetically altered foods. Make your latest meal at 6 pm.
  2. Adequate Rest - Make 10 pm the latest bedtime to allow your body it’s best sleep cycle and opportunity to rest and repair itself while sleeping. 
  3. Right Exercise - Do 30 to 45 minutes of exercise, from rebounding, yoga or walking, to strenuous aerobic exercises and weight training. Start slow and build up over time. 
  4. Natural Hygiene - Bathe daily, be well-groomed. Do dry skin brushing before your morning shower, to keep your skin breathing too. Use natural products to avoid excess chemicals.   
  5. Right Occupation - Be happy doing what you enjoy the most and what you do best! 
  6. Positive Life & Environments - Live and work in clean, orderly, tasteful quarters, with positive, loving people. (The rest doesn’t matter.)
  7. Spiritual Cultivation - Begin the day with 30 minutes of spiritual study. Use prayer, meditation, reading or journaling. 

Benefits of the Big Seven
  • Creating a firm foundation of balanced health so that we can bring love and good energy to ourselves and other people around us. 
  • By failing to follow the Big Seven, energy and attention tend to go to problems that soon develop in the body or mind, resulting from not doing the BIG SEVEN. 

REMEMBER - Each Day Is A New Day!

Here's todays dish:

Cucumber
Chips
These can be sweet, salty or spicy!
​A healthy alternative snack food!!
​Very Easy Recipe!!!

INGREDIENTS:
  • English Cucumbers - 3 small ones or 1-2 large ones
  • Seasoning of choice:
Option 1: Lemon and Pepper: 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper
Option 2: Salt and Vinegar: 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar Salt to taste
Option 3: Onion and Garlic: 1 teaspoon of onion powder 1 teaspoon of garlic powder Salt to taste
Option 4: Smokey Cucumber Chips: 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika 1 teaspoon of garlic powder Salt to Taste
DIRECTIONS:
  • Slice cucumbers thinly, about an 1/8 of an inch in thickness.
  • Pat cucumbers dry and add them to a bowl. Mix well with your seasoning of choice.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the cucumbers onto the baking sheet, lying flat and separated.
  • Bake low and slow at 170 degrees Fahrenheit for 3-4 hours. Time will depend on how large your cucumbers are.
  • Remove the cucumbers from the oven once they are dried out and crispy.
  • Enjoy your healthy snack!
​NOTE(S): If your oven temperature is off, this will cause your cucumber chips to either overcook or undercook. It’s a good idea to get an oven thermometer if you suspect your temperature isn’t correct. You can also use a food dehydrator for this.
