Core Stretches
by Dr. Pat

Stretches. No one wants to do them. Ever. We know we should but it usually ends up at the very bottom of our daily list of “things to do”. The largest percentage of people who partake of stretching are athletes. And even THEY don't want to do them, but they know if they don't, they are more likely to become injured during the course of some intense physical activity that they are involved in several times a week.
The short story is, we ALL need to stretch! Especially your core.
Core stretches, like all stretches, are hardly ever done by most people or are often overlooked completely. However, your core is the epicenter for all the stresses and demands you place on your body, whether it's at work, school, or the gym. Stretching regularly helps all the supportive tissues (ligaments, muscles, and tendons) of your body to stay elastic, flexible and pain-free. Bodies that are sedentary, and not asked to perform motions out of the ordinary (sitting at your desk for 8 hours a day) will quickly become spasmed, tight and painful over time.
In my 25+ years of doctoring and personal training, I have found that the following stretches are ones that most people, in generally good health, can do with ease. A small investment several times a week will make your body feel better, look better (posture), and perform better. And the good news is that it will take less than 15 minutes out of your day!
CORE STRETCHES:
  1. Hang from a bar by your hands (chin-up bar, monkey bars, etc.) as long as possible.  Take a break and rest, then repeat. (at least 3x) As you get stronger, slowly increase the amount of time you hang.

  1. Side stretch. Do both sides, one side at a time. Begin while standing...both arms pointed up towards ceiling… SLOWLY lean to one side for 30 seconds and HOLD. Repeat on the other side.

  1. Standing chest stretch. Standing, take arms out to sides and push back as far as possible, and hold for 30 seconds.

  1. Laying on back chest stretch. Laying on back on a bench (preferably) and both arms drop down below the horizon of your body for 30 seconds.

  1. Laying on belly on exercise ball stretch. Curl around the ball face down, and go limp. Do this for 30 seconds.
  2. Superman stretch. Start on your belly on the floor. Arms and legs come off the ground as if in a superman flying pose. Hold for 30 seconds.

Stage One: Detoxification begins. The session begins with laying your feet into a warm and relaxing pink Himalayan salt bath.

Stage 2: Toxins begin to exit the pores of your feet, and also through the normal channels of urination and bowel movements. As toxins are released, the water changes color and texture. As a side note, the water color would change slightly, even without your feet being in it at all. This is normal because when an electric current is run through water it will separate the hydrogen from the oxygen, and it will react with the normal chemistry of tap water.

Stage 3: Detoxification continues for 30 minutes. After which your feet are rinsed with fresh water and dried before you leave the chair.
 
In brief, each session allows negative ions to enter your body through the foot bath and "loosen" years of build up of pesticides, heavy metals, drugs, solvents, and other hazardous chemicals from your body tissues. They are then excreted through the pores of your feet and through your urination and bowel movements. Please note- you MUST drink adequate amounts of water to make this as effective as possible.

Dear Worry Wort,
That's a great question to ask and being prepared is one of the best things you can do for your students. Being exposed to new people, with new germs, close living quarters, and staying up late is likely to stress the immune system at some point. When I owned a Health Food Store, parents often came in to ask the same question. However, their kids were already sick for a few days and the parents would pack up an arsenal of products to send to their students who were usually already been sick for a few days. The key is to be prepared and catch it at the first sign of sniffles or sneezing.

When my daughter went away to school, I packed her a Kit of products that I thought would cover most of her needs and I called it: MOM IN A BOX. Hello Friends,
My name is Dr. Kathy Jerore, and I am a Certified Naturopath. In my family, we have been using natural remedies for the past 20 years as our first “go to” when my family or I don't feel well. Along with that, we make sure we are getting good nutrition and a variety of supplements as a form of prevention from dis-ease. Our illnesses are usually caused by lack of proper nutrition, a weakened immune system or stress.

In 1999, I attended the Naturopathic Institute of Therapies and Education in Mt. Plesant, Michigan. It was a 4 year program, plus I took an additional year to learn Homopathy. Beginning this month, I will be seeing clients in Dr. Pat's office if you have any questions about your health. I am not a Medical Doctor, and cannot diagnosis anything, but I use an assessment tool that helps to determine weak areas in the body that need attention before the dis-ease becomes a serious health problem. In tht process, I love to teach clients about wellness, nutrition, and share ideas of how they can do that, to stay healthy.

The tool that I most frequently use is called ZYTO, which is an FDA approved device, used for for assessing the energy flow in your body. The ZYTO assessments also recommend solutions through the use of supplements, homeopathic remedies and other therapies, to help assist the body towards healing.
